From Classroom Learning to Real Industry Experience

Acing a technique in the classroom and applying it professionally are two very different things. When it comes to a vocational subject like beauty and wellness, classroom preparation alone isn’t enough. Students need to experience the pressure of the industry for themselves. That is why we find the best real world opportunities for them. So that they are completely ready when they get their first job.

Their experience backstage at Miss Universe India 2026, was one such opportunity. Working as part of a professional hair and makeup team gave our students the chance to apply what they learn at Lakmē Academy classrooms in a high pressure event.

Learning How to Conduct Yourself Like a Professional

Your behaviour is the first impression the client gets of you. The first time you step backstage, it is easy to get caught up in everything happening around you. Learning to adjust without losing professionalism is an important part of beauty & wellness career training.

Can you listen when someone gives you an instruction? Can you ask for clarification without holding up the team? Can you speak to a model comfortably? Can you stay calm when something changes at the last minute?

Students learn how to speak to clients, communicate with other professionals, adapt to different settings and understand what a particular situation needs.

Understanding the Power of Teamwork Backstage

When you are a backstage artist you are part of a crew. Makeup artists, hairstylists, nail technicians, models, designers, photographers, models and event teams are all working towards the same final result.
Our students learnt how to communicate, divide responsibilities, support one another and keep moving through the chaos. That teamwork becomes an important part of preparing for beauty industry jobs.

Learning to Bring Someone Else’s Creative Vision to Life

Every client has a vision. Sometimes they explain it with a reference picture, sometimes a specific detail they love and at times they tell you the feeling or finish they want from their look.

The professional's job is to understand that vision and bring it to life. That means listening carefully, asking thoughtful questions, discussing what will work best and making sure both sides are on the same page before getting started.

Our student learnt that the final result should feel right for the person in the chair, not just look good from a professional’s point of view.

Staying Calm and Adapting When Plans Change

Backstage things don’t go according to plan.

The look will require last minute changes. You might be expected to do a look that takes an hour in 30 minutes. Maybe a product or tool is not working the way it should.

Real Industry exposure teaches students to think on their feet.

They learnt problem solving, speed, flexibility, and how to maintain the quality of their work even when things didn’t go as per their plan.

Without this soft skill you can’t survive long term in the industry.

Building a Portfolio That Shows What You Can Do

A portfolio is proof that you can create.

That is why getting to work on different looks and in different professional settings while still a student can be so valuable. Each experience gives students something new to document, refine and add to their body of work. Over time, these looks can show more than technique. They can show versatility, attention to detail and the ability to work with different briefs
By the time they begin looking for their first opportunity, they have work that tells a story.

Building Connections Within the Beauty Industry

The beauty industry is built around people. An opportunity can begin with someone remembering the way you worked.

Working at industry events gives students the chance to meet artists, models, coordinators and other professionals while they are still learning. They get to observe how different people work, ask questions, understand different career paths and start building professional relationships.

The value of these connections is not just about finding the next job. Sometimes, meeting the right person or seeing a particular role up close can help a student discover a part of the industry they had never considered before.

For students looking at a beauty parlour certificate course, that wider exposure can make the learning experience feel much more connected to the career ahead.

Growing Confidence Through Real-World Experience

Perhaps the biggest change happens inside the student.

The first time you handle a difficult situation, you may be nervous. The second time, you know a little more. The tenth time, you start thinking, “Okay, I can handle this.”

That confidence comes from trying again and again.

Real industry exposure gives them the chance to see what they are capable of. It gives them those small moments of “I did it” that slowly become confidence.

At Lakmē Academy Powered by Aptech we give students everything they need to succeed in their career.
One milestone at a time.
